Recorded a hit song about Gunsynd, the Goondiwindi grey, a champion racehorse in the 70s.

John retired from race-calling on May 11th, 1998, after some 70,000 races called in 33 years. At the time of his retirement he was calling for Channel 9 in Sydney, Sky Channel and the on-course commentaries.

Tappy is now anchor-man for the new racing channel on Foxtel.
