In 1981 at Leeds, he and Rodney Marsh considered taking the 500/1 on offer for England winning the Test against the Australian team they were playing in.

On 18th November, 1981, Lillee was suspended for 2 one-day matches for kicking Pakistani captain Javed Miandad during an on-field clash.
