ustralian Football Rules star born in Melbourne on 27th February, 1936.
Whilst playing for Melbourne the club won 3 grand finals 1955-57 and Barassi won the club's Best Player Award in 56-57.
Took Carlton to two premierships in 1968 and 1970 as captain/coach and coached North Melbourne from 1973 to their first premiership in 1975 and again in 1977.
He was coach of Melbourne from 1981 - 1985.
In all, Barassi played in 253 matches between 1953 to 1969.
Ron successfully coached the Sydney Swans from 1993-95 before finally hanging up his shingle as a coach.
Barassi was the first life member of the Victorian Football League, now the Australian Football League.
Within his retirement Ron had a stint as a pub owner and can now be found on the motivational and after-dinner speech rounds.
Ron is a board member of the Sydney Swans.
