NSW Colonial Secretary from 1826-1837. He and his wife Eliza first occupied Elizabeth Bay House which was built between 1835-39, with its sweeping staircase leading to a first-floor gallery. The Macleays built up a natural history collection over the years, which was later given to Sydney University.  |
