 he name for the township of Maralinga comes from the Aboriginal word for thunder. Quite an appropriate name for this atomic testing town. On July 21st, 1973, France exploded the first nuclear device over the South Pacific island of Mururoa. It was the first on a series of tests which flamed much protest in Australia.
